Smoke Signals

By Amy C. Witt

I keep sending you smoke signals
From the shallows of these canyons
Where the coyotes cry
And haunt me all night
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I keep sending you smoke signals
From the top of this California skyline
But maybe these old Oaks
Are disturbing the signs
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I keep sending you smoke signals
And the owls they told me
That you were wandering lost
Perhaps, searching for me
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I keep sending you smoke signals
But I guess their unseen
Maybe by the bright in your eyes
Or the darkness of the big Texas sky
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I keep sending you smoke signals
In hopes of communicating with you
As I watch the sunset
And dream of holding you
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Oh but baby,
I keep sending you smoke signals
In hopes that maybe
You will find me
And help me build my fire
As we dance around forever
under this big galaxy
